I used to have flawless skin since birth until my early college years. I could seriously get away with just baby powder on my face to control the oilies. I would get occasional pimple or two but nothing serious or any major breakout. The only noticeable thing on my face would be my pores... They're visible >.< but apart from that I had no major issues. A pimple or two would appear sometimes but mostly on that time of the month.
Here's a pic I found with nothing on.
Another pic with no makeup or whatsoever on my face.
So what's the point of this post? I HAD A MAJOR BREAKOUT, and that is still an understatement. It was MAJOR MAJOR >.< It was humongous, zits were all over my face, particulary my cheeks. It started January of 2010 and continued on until the summer. When it started, it was just around my cheeks, nothing too noticeable. But when summer started, it got worse and worse. They were all over me now and I rarely go out unless I really really really need to, but on those rare times I would pile my face with so much concealer! I was so depressed and refused to get my picture taken. I recall when I was still in high school, I had a nightmare of zits all over my face. What did you know, it came true T.T
The reason? Maybelline Angelfit - both the 2 way foundation and their liquid variant. :( At least I think it's the reason because that was what I was using when I started to break out. Add stress from school, less sleep and an addiction to an online game that I started to play the same month that the break out started. Yep that was a deadly combination for my skin. >.< (I'll do a separate blog entry about this break out of mine)
Fast forward to December 2010 (now as of writing) and everything has been clearing up. Thanks to my derma (Clinica Dermatologica) and to my secret weapon...BB creams ^.~ The latter is a real lifesaver.
I've been a BB cream user even before the break out happened. I started the BB cream around 2008ish, Purederm Beauty Magic BB Cream from BareNaturals (available here) and followed by Skinfood Aloe Sun. I never got to finish the tubes though because I switched to mineral make-up after a few months of using them. I dunno why, I guess I was feeling adventurous way back? Haha. And so I gave the 2 tubes of BB cream to my then bf. And we broke up blah blah blah let's skip the emotional part shall we?
Anyway, I've been using my mineral make-up (from BareNaturals ♥) from the time I stopped using Angelfit (around March) until July when I bought my third tube of BB Cream, Skinfood Gingko Green. I dunno why I was convinced to buy BB creams again. I guess I just missed BB creams haha! While my visits to the derma helped me control my acne, it left very noticeable acne scars all over my face, particularly my cheeks T.T What did the BB cream do? It helped lighten my scars! It's not an instant lightening though, it's gradual and it might take some time. But with patience and everyday use, I definitely saw an improvement.
Taken November 2010, after 4 months of daily use of my Skinfood Gingko. Note that this is not a bare face pic, I have BB cream on my face set with BN setting powder and if I'm not mistaken, Etude House Fresh Cherry Blusher Duo. It looks similar to my bare face pre-break out stage, right? Methinks.
And so began my BB cream addiction and the search of finding the perfect BB cream for my oily face. What I like about BB cream is that it's a skincare product and foundation rolled into one. I know that the coverage is not comparable to a real liquid foundation but it's lighter and even beneficial to our skin compared with liquid foundies. And what's more, I tried around 6 variants of BB cream already and none broke me out. ♥
Taken yesterday haha! This time with Dr. Jart Silver BB Cream with a dot of Missha Perfect Cover 21 under my eyes and a dot of 23 on my cheeks, set with BN setting powder, BN Viva Sofia blush on my cheeks, Etude House Face Designing Brightener as highlighter and nothing else. With my sister, Gaby and our beagle Audi.
See how radiant and glowing my skin is. All thanks to BB cream ♥ I found it beneficial for my face not just immediately but in the long run too. The best of all, it doesn't look like I'm wearing make-up at all but it hides and conceals all those horrible scars and discolorations away. My fave BB cream is the Dr. Jart Silver BB cream as it has good oil control and it brightens the face well. ♥♥♥♥
Well, that's it then. I'll be doing separate reviews of my BB creams in the future too. Now, just to keep my fingers crossed that I won't do a mega-haul of BB creams this holiday.
